Fabric Scrap Art

Instead of spending money on generic wall art I often make my own. I find the process much more satisfying than simply clicking “add to cart”. Creating art also helps my mind disconnect from worldly concerns and reconnect with the natural instinct to work with our hands. Problem solving projects help me fully engaged then delve in to find solutions. Today’s task ~ repurposing fabric scraps!

Black fabric scraps sew together to make a piece large enough to caver at 12″x16″ canvas

I was looking through pictures of “Modern Boho Bedroom” and that is where I got the inspiration for these art pieces. Using all kinds of patterns of black&white, as well as black&off-white, fabric I sewed scraps together until I had a piece large enough to cover a framed canvas.

Textured like corduroy, I used this olive lime fabric to make some simple leaf shapes. I also stitched in a few details and bit of embellishment to define the leaf outlines.

I could have left the black and white fabric covered canvases plain but I love the look of green leaves these days. I made a few from some textured fabric and then made some random stitch lines on my sewing machine to highlight the leaf outline.

Finished scrap fabric canvases with embellished leaves.

I think these canvases could fit into this type of bedroom decor.
